This is the Eldred Rock Lighthouse, the oldest original Alaskan lighthouse (built in 1905). It sits on a tiny island in the stormy waters of Lynn Canal, which runs from Juneau to Skagway. It's not open to the public, but I was fortunate enough to visit during a rare window of good weather in 2000, while kayaking the length of Lynn Canal. Taken with a point and shoot film camera and scanned.
Wow. Thanks for those recent pictures EAP, Sarah, Rhys, sherlock, et-al. Sorry about the models pictures, but like I said the lighthouse by my pool (better known as St. Georges Light) is the only one I know of in the desert, and it does warn swimmers of the pools (mid) point.
Keep em' comming. As you can see by the number of views there are a lot of people that like lighthouses. And all of the pictures (except for 2) so far have been spectacular, as well as being places we will probably never go.
They are truely a window to world-wide nautical history.
