[QUOTE=SpecialK;412551]Point Pinos LH in Pacific Grove, Calif.

This is the lighthouse that started this thread... I was one of the last lighthouse keepers (USCG) here in 1974... A great job for about a year until automation. The houses in the compound are for USCG officers and senoir enlisted personel assigned to USCG station Monterey (at the breakwater/beginning of Cannery Row.
Many is the time that I was cleaning the outer glass, and of course the Fresnel lens inside, where the person in your photo is walking. We would go out and retrieve golf balls from the iceplant occasionally as the PG Golf course runs through the back yard (beyond the fence).
Thanks for posting this!

That is an interesting story. I had not seen the thread-starter before. I was visiting my mom in PG and took her on a little spin of the area (lighthouse, cemetery across the street, John Denver memorial, Thai bistro...) .

A family friend in New Zealand was a relieving Lighthouse keeper in the 1970's. he would spend around a month at a time on stations when the resident keeper and their family was on leave. As kids we spent some great weekends at some incredible locations that in those days were not generally accessible by the public. Shame I didn't have a camera then.
Just to stay on topic here is the light house at Port Fairy in Victoria (Australia).

Just to the Southwest of Melbourn (stll a fair drive). Must be the dead of winter now. I haven't been back to Melbourne since 1968...
The ship I was on did joint operatons (Viet-Nam) with the HMAS Perth D 38, our sister ship (same hull design). Curiously enough, the ship I was on was sold to Australia for parts and scrapped in 1993.
My link to Austrailia... gotta go back one of these years.

This is the St. George lighthouse, in St. George Island, FL. The entire thing actually collapsed in '05, and they just rebuilt it 2 years ago. I snapped this pic about 3 or so months ago (just before the oil spill).
