Thanks for the information even if it is not what I wanted to hear. Do you know if they make exceptions for people traveling with service dogs?

They wouldn't as it's about keeping Australia comparatively disease free.

At the end of World War 1, they shot the cavalry horses rather than bringing them back into Australia. Though I suspect that was to reduce the cost of shipping them more than for quarantine reasons.

Looks like they're making changes to make it less arduous, the time in cage in the quarantine is coming down from 30 days to 10 apparently.

Rich you will have trouble coming from the USA in particular because it's a country with rabies and that is one of the major threats the quarantine people in ANZ are scared about.

DPR- I am a bit confused to see Hawaii listed as a category 1/2 country.

No rabies in Hawaii. They run a very similar quarantine regime to Australia including pets coming from mainland USA.

And you will guarantee that 100% of dogs in the USA are vaccinated then?
Way better to be safe than sorry we have enough problems in this part of the world with imported pests and animals to casually allow US dogs free entry to the country based on some law that may or may not be applied to an individual animal.
