Site to go read-only in September

If you haven't read the feedback thread recently, it appears that Jeff is making the site read-only in September. If there is enough interest we could check with Jeff to see how we might become administrators of the site, or possibly just assume it entirely.

    What say you?

Makes sense and probably won't cost us much to maintain.

I'm in the let it go category. Times change and this site has moved well past it's use by date.
If people really want a simple solution would be a Facebook or (my preference) Goggle+ group based around the forum membership.
If anybody really wanted you could even set up a Flickr group that would allow image posting and discussion threads but obviously users would need a Flickr account.

    +1 for K1W1

I would vote for letting this site go, after all who wants the grief to maintain it and deal with spammers.

Google + or Flickr surely would fit the bill for such a small group of us old timers without the extra work.

Having said that, I've valued every moment on this wonderful site

I hadn't considered the Google+/Flicker option which is better. This site is where I first learned about photography and where I've met some great people in Australia- it will be missed.

I meant to ask Rich. Are you intending on heading back this way at any stage?

As far as moving the group to another location is concerned somebody should probably PM Jeff to see what his feelings are about use of the DCResource name. My suggestion if he doesn't want it used (and that is his choice) would be something like just DCR or DCRmembers as a group name.
I'm happy to participate in anything anybody wants to set up but I am not going to volunteer to do any organising. Been there, done that.

Interesting thoughts guys. The Flickr idea sounds interesting to me as a relatively new Flickr user it seems quite simple and can be dipped into as and when just as I do here now. Not sure if the conversational side of the forum would work as well on Flickr though. Haven't any experience of Google + so can't comment. The real shame for me here was the demise of the main review and information site. I can understand why Jeff went to DPR and in his position I'd have probably done the same but I definitely miss the review part of this site the forum was just the icing on the cake really. I hope Jeff keeps the site up as a reference place for old cameras. Great for details on future second hand buys. George if you do work out a way to keep this going I'll stay. If it moves to Flickr I'm happy to try that or anything else too.

I will join in any forum/group so we can continue to share images and opinions. Hopefully everyone who remains active in here will do so.
