    Canon 7D Red-Eye Wont Disable

Ive found that when the built-in flash is up on my 7D and the Red-Eye On/Off is set to Off, the red-eye always flashes before the shot is taken as though it were on. No matter what setting (M, Av, Tv, P), the repeated red-eye flash fires prior to the shot. I assume Im missing something, but it would appear the red-eye is not working as it should. The camera firmware version 1.2.3

Thanks for helping me understand this behavior. I know the auto focus would be searching around to focus in low light, but it would just be nice to be able to control the flashing even though I have the flash up. So to stop the flashing, I apparently have to not raise the built-in flash, supplement the lighting or switch the lens to manual mode.
