Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your in-depth test of the Canon SX50.
Pitty of the (as you call it) "lousy" viewfinder.
For me, a good viewfinder is important. Due to the diopter correction I can see through the viewfinder without reading glasses.
But when I have to use the LCD, then I need to put on my reading glasses (and take it off again when looking at the scene or surrounding), in other words, bothersome.
Time and time again I wonder about these apparent design (or commercial / cost-based?) decisions. There seems to be always something which makes a camera less desirable. :-(
