Well, Jeff didn't say no, so here it is. The lighthouse thread. If you have a good lighthouse picture this is the place. Please post at least basic information on where it is and what camera and settings. Here is a different version of one I've already posted (so I will erase that one).

I've erased the other times I've posted this shot, so here you go! Finepix 3800, 1/350 @ f/2.8. It was taken in Nova Scotia, as you probably know from my other post. It was originally gas powered but when electricity was discovered it was converted. BTW, I love lighthouses too, George, so I'm really glad that you started this thread!
I'm lucky. I live by the sea. Have done all my life though in different parts of the country. Right now I'm on the extreme South Coast of England. Just a few miles down the road from here is Dungeness Point, home to two nuclear power stations - and two lighthouses!
Here's the first one. This is known as the "Old" lighthouse though it is in fact the fourth one to stand on the point. Built in 1901 it's redundant now because the shingle around this part of the world drifts dramatically along the shoreline and nowadays, because of that drift, the lighthouse is actually a long way from the sea!! Not a lot of good then!! Today it's a museum and if you're brave enough to climb the 169 steps and then out on to the upper platform, you'll get a very good view of the French coast line.

This is the second (and currently operational) lighthouse at Dungeness Point in the UK. It had to be built because the "Old" lighthouse in effect moved too far away from the sea to be of any use to shipping. The "displacement" was caused by the shingle drift that occurs in this part of the world and over time, the shoreline moved further and further out, leaving the "Old" lighthouse a long way from the sea. So this one was built.
I have an ambition to go to Dungeness Point in Washington State. Can't be too many people who can say they've been to both ;O)
