Sir les, yes, video looks fabulous to my eyes; but am pretty sure I read in most places the mkiii kicks the d800 in the teeth when it comes to video.

nah. im sure it will pop up at some point but its pretty rare i reckon for what i would shoot and from what ive read online.
i also think the d800e will have better resale value and i dont intend to keep this body any longer than i have to. im still yearning for a d800s built more for speed with less resolution.

I agree about an s with lower resolution, was hoping the 600 would've fit the bill but its pretty stripped down.

A D600 sensor with some tweaks (for marketing purposes to justify the price tag) in a D800 body (inc the focus circuitry) at 6 fps with 8-10 fps when the grip was fitted would be the stuff of dreams but it would also kill the D4 and possibly D800 (standard version) markets and Nikon unfortunately did that with the D700 so I suspect that they are unlikely to fall for it again. The FX three card trick is now set in place and their range is small (D6xx), Medium (D8xx) and Large (DX) from now on.
A D4s is probably the more likely thing to arrive they have to give D3s owners something to upgrade to at some stage.

If their list price is accurate that's why you got yours and I'm still waiting. DDP list is $500 cheaper, hence they're making me wait.
