5d mkiii tips
Am renting a mkiii this weekend. Can any users pls share some setup and shooting tips. I'd also like to make sure I can set up the camera to spot meter off a specific AF point. Am doing a 40th on Sunday so I have a day to get it set up right. Will be using a 50/1.2L.
My other question is, if I shoot raw, does canon have free raw editing software that I can download and use ?
Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately I can't help you because you own a Nikon...or maybe because I haven't even seen a 5DIII. Should be fun though. Let us know what you think.

nice Rooz.
I'd like to help more but I've had my camera for a quite short time. That's gonna be a terrific combo.
Do you have Lightroom or Aperture? If you have either one you can use it to process the RAW files. Need Lightroom 4.1 for 5D3 support.

I have neither. All I have is nikon software.

Ask the rental place to give you the software CD that came with the camera?

You got lens envy something bad for the alternate system or you like the body more?

Great idea !
No, no lens envy anymore, except for the 135/2. It's more about the body. The d800/600 aren't working for me and my d700 is now dead so I have nothing. I either start from scratch with canon or buy a d4.

I understand and almost did likewise as I want 36MP like a hole in the head and the Canon 1.2 primes attracted me

Canon DPP software comes with camera but not sure if you can download it from Website.
If you use earlier versions of Photoshop CSx then you can download Adobe Raw to convert to DNG and this will allow you to open the files in Photoshop.
Finally, if your child is interested in photo editing, they can purchase CS6 for $185 and then you can open the CR2 files directly into Photoshop.
