thanks michael. i used a trial of dxolabs which i quite like actually and it let me run both the d4 and mkiii files thru it simultaneously and side by side in total raw format with no adjustments. (although it took me a while to figure out how to do that ! lol). on a side note i quite liked the dxolab software. the auto lens correction based on the actual lens profile was pretty cool, especially the perspective and distortion control.
as for the mkiii. a fantastic tool. if you shoot canon and you dont have one...get one. the AF was sensational. best ive ever used until it gets dark. the video mode is brilliant, the LV is brilliant, the LV AF was brilliant, (for a dslr), the LCD is brilliant, the rotating command wheel is brilliant. the menus are brilliant, (never thought id say that of a canon !), the ergonomics to hold it are brilliant, it feels brilliant, it looks brilliant. so many good things going for it. the dynamic range really lets it down though imo. there was a stark difference between what i was getting out of the d4 and what i was getting out of the mkiii.
so that leaves me with a problem cos i was pretty much sold on the mkiii until the end of this weekend.

poorer iso performance after allowance for slight underexposure and lower dynamic range vs better focus and video on the Canon (at least from watching a million comparisons)
Good luck with your decision making

Your killing me Rooz, the last thing I need to do is to upgrade to the 5d3, especially after just buying the OM-D to try out!

I don't recall saying it was bad, but it's not as good as the d800....Probably not as good as a d700 either for that matter. Thats not an opinion, its immediately evident when you shot them side by side. Similarly, I don't think the d800 AF system is bad, just not as good as the mkiii....again, immediately apparent when shooting with them both side by side.
