Sony has actually really came up with some awesome products recently. The RX1 and Nex cameras are great. The SLT is an advancement, it's new technology, time will tell if it's lasting technology.
But as I've said in past posts, Sony has a history of isolating their products, making them proprietary, and closing the door on any competition. This is a double edged sword: it might isolate a product so far as to alienate (memory stick, Betamax, mini- disc), or they might corner the market (blu-ray). This is one of the top reasons I rarely if ever buy Sony, I hate their business practices.
