Opinion on this
I was trying to get close to a heron but it flew off. I thought I would try a panning shot and when I heard the slow shutter I thought that the photo would be rubbish. I have just looked at it and I like the result; anyone have any opinions?
-
Anthony,
I gotta admit to saving a few that are similar in end result. I think with probably 20% less blur on the main subject and it would be a bit more accessible to those that were not present. However, I save such results because they bring the sense of the moment back to me.

That is how it came off the camera apart from a crop; I like it for the movement as well. I think the heron is still recognisable but as you say would be nicer if it was a bit more defined.

Well you asked for opinions....and remember, it is only an opinion
Sorry, not a keeper.

I'm with Gaza on this one. I know it's some kind of bird but not for what species. Also, I'd think it was a shot with incorrect setting; nothing to suggest panning.

It's pretty good. Up to you if it's good enough to do anything with or fits in anywhere. However I have seen worse pictures hanging on walls, including a few of the same genre.

Some interesting responces and thinking about it a larger version looks better.
However I have seen worse pictures hanging on walls
This made me think; in my whole life from memory I have only ever had one of my photos hanging on the wall or even displayed. As somebodys signature says I enjoy getting the photo and that is it.

Anthony,
Members here will answer honestly if you ask for their opinions.
However, we all have photos that mean a lot, even if they aren't technically imperfect.
I have many of the kids that I didn't have time to mess with the setting; especially in earlier days when I was still trying to find my way with the camera. Some were underexposed, some were over blown, some blurry. But they are still keepers because they mean a lot to me.
Likewise if your photos means something to you and it makes you happy, then of course keep it or even frame it. At the end of the day, you take picture to make yourself happy; not for anyone else's satisfaction.
