    Bought the 50mm f1.8G

Snapped and got it. Needed something between the 35mm end of wide angle and my 85mm.

So far, I am extremely impressed with it. Wide open its sharp in the centre. Never understood sharpness comparisons at the edge when at 1.8 the DOF means the borders will always be soft. Anyway, not an issue for me either way as I dont look at borders so cannot comment.

Contrast excellent throughout. CA not an issue. My sigma is worse.

Did some comparison shots with my 85mm and confirm that the nikon is sharper at 1.8 - all the same from 2.8.

Autofocus is quick and silent (as it says on the tin).

Bokeh is lovely in my opinion but have not tested it extensively in a variety of conditions to be conclusive. So far, it looks smooth.

All in all, its a brilliant lens!

    Will post samples SOOC soon

I'm happy for you. Maybe it's good that you didn't get the F/1.4G. It displays the same characteristic of the D lens I read somewhere.
I almost bought the 1.8G too but the price of the 1.8 D is irresistible that I decided to pull the plug.

    Congrats on the acquisition Herc.

Out of curiosity what's the big diff between D & G versions?

I have owned both. From my point of view:

Sharper, not that much noticeable better bokeh - but think it is more rounded in my views and less busy. Autofocus is quieter not sure its faster.
The lens is bigger though but somehow feels more plasticky?! Less CA

Overall its certainly better than the D version for the above reasons

Good choice Phil. That lens is a real winner by all accounts.
