Anyone closer to ditching their Nikon for an ILC?

I am getting VERY close to getting the NEX-7. The lens choice is stopping me however, for now. Whenever they bring out a decent lens set (by end of next year) then the camera itself might be cheaper.

Samsung just brought out a new set of cameras also. They too look intriguing especially since they have good lenses.

Reasons for changing? versatility of camera body and SIZE. The latter very much more of an issue for me now. Lower back aint what it used to be!

Anyone else thought about this or getting close to making a move?

Thought about it very seriously, used some ILC cameras, nex, v1, gf1, gf3...end of thought process.

I have no interest in owning these as a primary camera anymore, they just cannot equal the iq of the d700 just yet. I would be happy to run one side by side if Nikon get their j2 right but not as a stand alone. I used to think that canon would release theirs and blow everything out of the water but their sensor development of late has not been what it should b so I'm not holding my breath there either.

Probably not for a few years at minimum, and assuming dSLRs are still around in the future, I'd say something like the Nikon 1 would be owned along with a future dSLR.

As an aside, with all these different companies taking a crack at these ILCs, it seems that none of them seem to have nailed it as well as Apple has nailed things with the iPhones.

As soon as you put a decent lens on any of them, the whole advantage of "size" just dissapears - and size is the ONLY thing they've got going for them compared to DSLR's... So, no. If I want something light to travel with, I much rather get an entry level DSLR.

That's also my words. I also say that to people - the pan cake lens is fixed. If you want more flexibility you might as well carry a DSLR.
I won't be ditching my Nikon for a while, maybe a many good few years, yet.

Agree with those points. But you cant argue that even an 18-55 lens on a tiny body is far smaller / lighter than equivalent DSLR with same focal length. Whether its FF or cropped.

I too am not YET convinced but boy am I tired (literally!) of carrying around that kit. Add a water bottle, guide book and hat for my balding head, and I am essentially an alpaca

Sure, but is it smaller/lighter enough to make a difference? It only seems to make sense if you are carrying a single lens, and if that's the case I'd rather have a Canon G1 X.

Yes, this is the key point david and it's exactly why I bought the s100 after many attempts at buying something bigger than a compact but smaller than dslr.

I might carry an ILC one as a complement to the DSLR. But to replace it entirely... No.
It might be more enticing if the ILC can directly use a Nikon flash or lens.

Isn't that FT-1 adapter for the J1/V1 made for this purpose? Though I think there is some functionality loss as a result of using Nikon lenses on the J1/V1. There are internet articles and pictures of people using the 600mm f/4 with the Nikon V1.
