My 5D MK III thread.
So my 5D MK III came in today (March 23). I'll be playing around with it and sharing my experiences here. Let me know if there are any specific tests you'd like me to try out and I'll see what I can do.

Interesting Nick but the 5D2 would probably have done just as well with those shots. I would be interested in some birds in flight or something a little more challenging for the AF.

AI servo tracking for me as well. And metering in comparison to the 50D which I believe has the same metering as the 5D Mark II....

Rooz, My understanding of the 2 systems at this point is that for all intents and purposes they are the same but the 1dx benefits from extra information obtained through the RGB AF sensor. I am not 100% sure on that though.

Servo focusing is very responsive. I'm not a bird shooter but I here is a quick little test.
85mm @ 1.8, servo mode single point AF in surounding point help mode where the adjacent points aid in tracking. The first shot is out of focus and I was little bummed about it untill I checked where I had my AF point selected. I usually place the AF point on the edge of the subject with the hopes that the higher contrast will help lock focus in this case it focused on the grass behind the goose. From that frame on I had the point on the goose and it focused well.

next series shot at 1.8 too. I reality I would probably shoot this at 2.8 or something like that to get some more DOF but I wanted to stress the focus system as much as possible in these shots. Selection point on his jacket just under his head. The DOF is so shallow his face goes out of focus but the camera stayed focused on where I told it to.
