Sir Les was kind enough to have me along at a portrait shoot today.
I fair dinkum struggled to communicate what poses I wanted but luckily Sir Les was in his element. Very stressful but had a blast. Lot's of images to process but here's a teaser.

I underexposed my shots significantly but fortunately they seem to be recoverable in CNX having shot NEF's. Serve me damn well right for using matrix metering and TTL flash instead of full manual.

OK, here's a bunch of shots from the photoshoot. First off, please remember that DPR and I are just a couple of amateurs who like fooling around with cameras and stuff. If we can find someone silly enough to sit still in front of the lens for a bit, so much the better. Secondly, these were shot in my friend Normajeane's house (yes, that's her real name), for which I thank her and her hubby for their patience and understanding. Nj was also our model and she emphasised she wanted quirky rather than glamour photos, so we tried to oblige. Thirdly, the main object of the day was experimentation with lighting; our results were somewhat variable. But at the end of the day we all had fun, as you will see.
To save confusion we used DPR's lighting equipment, which consisted of an SB-900 and two SB-600's, stands, a softbox and umbrellas. After a few minutes sorting out which group and channel settings I should use, we were ready to go. He was shooting with his D300 and I was using my D7000. He allowed me to fondle his (photographic) equipment, and even let me use his 16-85VR (great for portraiture) and 70-200VR (beautiful lens but quite a beast to lug around).
As I said, Nj was aiming for quirky but this looks quite glamorous to me:
However, it wasn't long before something cracked her up:
It wasn't long before Lady Les wanted to get into the act. "OK, but stay in the background," I commanded.
But it wasn't long before the two of them were playing up...

Wow Les, great photos and fantastic summary of the day!
I shot a lot with my 105 micro (which really was just too close indoors) and the 24-70 mostly pretty wide. Funny that the 16-85VR was so versatile for portraiture, I'd have never guessed before going into the shoot.
Normajeane was also keen on B&W so here's one I've done. I'll also post the colour later when I've processed that.
