remote flash trigger/ shutter sync issues

I believe that I'm having some timing issues with my remote flash triggers...

The Gear:
Sony a500
Minolta 5200i flash
iShoot wireless trigger system (cheap ebay triggers that i hope aren't the problem...)

The Problem:
The top 15-20% of the frame is dark after exposures using flash with remote triggers.

My Hypothesis:
I'm guessing that the cause of this is that the shutter isn't completely open when the flash fires. I've tried exposures in every flash mode with the same results.

I'm not at all sure how to fix this issue or even exactly what is going on... any and all help would be very appreciated.

I haven't used the iShoot snipers but I do know they have a delay time of 680 microseconds.
It doesn’t sound a lot, but it’s probably enough that you may not be able to use the maximum synch speed of 250th.
Oh forget it, you probably don't have that synch on the A500.
Still I'll leave it for others.

Thanks a lot guys. That makes everything much more clear. But to double check: the first and second curtains open from top to bottom correct?
If so then I am cool with what is going on. If not then I'm still a bit in the dark...

The illustration in the adorama video in the link provided showed the curtains traveling from the bottom of the frame to the top. If my alpha runs top to bottom, and the darkness is at the top then I just need to run a longer exposure time...
