Canon rolls out three new EF lenses

For $1,000, hopefully we get a lens which doesn't back-focus..

Is the quality that much different to justify paying that extra $1000?

I reckon so. I could never trust the old 24-70/2.8 - would back-focus too often, and it forced me to work with primes or the zooms either-side (neither of which is ideal). It was quite frustrating when for some events the 24-70 was the perfect FL.

So assuming they have sorted the BF, then I don't have a problem seeing the value in this new lens.

No IS in the 24-70?! WHAT?!

Agreed, no IS is a surprise indeed. A shame really.

Also the 'reverse' zoom of the old lens made the hood very efficient. I liked that design element a lot.
