I don't think there's any question that there will be a different version of this camera. Let's for argument sake call it a d800s, which will be a d800 body with the d4 sensor. Much like the d700-d3 setup is like today. The d700 came out a year after the d3, do I would make sense that in a years time we'll have another version.

It would appear to me like Nikon have taken the specialty type approach even with the level down from the d3 models. So we have the d800 and d4 now but in future we get a d800s and a d4x. Sharing respective sensors.

What I'm looking forward to testing out is the new AF. Reading the blog of one of the guys who has it, he claims it to be noticeably better than the D700. And the AF on the D700 is already pretty awesome. But above all else, I want to see how the dynamic range is on these new models compared to the old ones.

not sure if people have caught onto joy ride yet. but if you havent you should. now i dont know enuf about video to have the slightest comprehension if the d800 is doing stuff that hasnt been done before in dslr, i doubt that. well produced dslr video looks amazing regardless of platform. but its just such a brilliantly produced video you need to watch it. the making is also very interesting and can be found here:

You know my feelings towards DSLR video.. and when I first watched this video(awhile ago) I was very impressed. The uncompressed 1080 HD video is very impressive to say the least, the specs on this camera are extremely impressive.

If you havent seen them yet, high ISO images have been made available...

look at the aperture and shutter speeds jason, i dont consider those hi-iso samples personally. i reckon the d800 will be very lucky to match the d700 at 3200 and up. triple the pixel density is going to be a tough ask.

Thanks for posting but they're not particularly useful for my comparison. If you find others please link as well.

Such a bright scene you crank the iso to 25,000 and the shutterspeed to 1/8000 and restrict the DOF to a doorknob doesn't help me determine how noisy my images will be at 1/100 sec and high iso.

The chandelier shot at 6400 iso gives me a good idea of its performance, sure, its not a definite indicator of what I will get in a church for weddings, but I like what I see.

I really dont care about 25,000 iso anyway. If I did, I would get a D4.

Dammmmm! Even if they were demo bodies, I wouldnt mind "having" them... but those lenses.... oh my!! You'd think Nikon would take measures to prevent something like this from happening!
