Nikon D700 - wide angle recommendations

As some of you may know/ remember, I have a bit of a weird set up. Wide angle on a cropped sensor (D80 with 10-20 sigma) and telephoto on full frame (D700 with 70-200).

I am considering selling the D80 and sigma in lieu of a wide angle lens for the D700. However, I am NOT sure which lens to get. Assuming my budget is in the region of 700 (funds generated from selling the D80, Sigma 10-20 and 50mm f1.4) what would you recommend?

I tend to end up with the sigma 12-24 but is the 16-35 nikon worth stumping the extra cash for (whilst loosing a lot on the wide end)? Optically better I would think but big and heavy

    thanks

You are not losing a lot the 10 on the d80 is 15 if that's wide enough the 16 on the 700 should be fine

I meant to say that from the 12mm wide end on the sigma on D700 is quite a difference compared to 16mm on D700.

12mm would most probably catch my ears in the photo!

I have the option to buy a sigma 15-30mm lens for basically a third of the price of the 12-24. think its worth it? Only just found a real life shot difference between 12mm and 15mm and realised its not massive - at least probably not for me!

The 16-35 VR beats the 12-24 optically, with ease. The only reason I'd buy a 12-24 again is for the ultra wide 12mm. But if IQ is your main concern, the 16-35 is well worth it. I've had both, and still have the 16-35.

Thanks for the responses. In the end, given the good (actually great price) I went for the 15-30mm. Awaiting receipt before further comment!

    thanks again
