Canon IXUS40/SD400 VIDEO NOISE PROBLEM

Hi all, I just bought a Canon IXUS 40 product and I noticed that there is a constant big noise on the video playback. This noise is easy noticeable after any type of recording and with any mode of video (30fps,15fps,640x480,320x240).Is this a known problem? Is there any firmware upgrade or something like this that can fix this problem? I asked some people with the same camera and the confirmed to me that the have the same problem.
Any help will be extremely valuable cause the camera is brand new and I'm a little bit di.sapointed.

Can you give a few more details? What do you mean by "big noise"? Can you post an example online for us to see?

My Canon SD400 has a constant hum during playback of all videos. This happened on the SD200 I tried and returned before buying this. I'm fairly expert at video by now after running www.FunOnVideo.com for about 18 months. I spoke to Canon and they told me it was most likely a result of the camera being so small that the microphone, which is so close to the autofocus mechanism, picks up the ambient camera operational sounds. I own a Sony DSCP-100, which also shoots very nice 640X480 video, but has no such noisy hum. The downside of the Sony is that the video autofocus is not as tight as the Canon's. No easy answers here, gentleman!!! But I'm open for one because I love shooting spontaneous video with these little cameras.

This doesn't quite make sense to me. Although it wouldn't be the 1st time a tech support person made up their own story! :-)
As I understand it, the Canon SD cameras do NOT refocus while recording a video. But they do stay current with the light meter. So that still leaves the hum unexplained. Maybe it's not motor noise, but just electrical interference?

From what I read, it's worth it to take the bad camera back & just try again with a different unit, same model.

All I know is that it's driving me nuts because I was going to buy a Canon SD400 until I heard about the hum / buzz / whine while filming videos. Then I decided on the SD300 and ordered it, but it's now out of stock for 2 weeks & the price went up $20 (to $299). So that order is cancelled since they don't have any anyway. Back to square one! :-|

I have had several Canon cameras in the past and all have had same noise during video. A high pitch hum or whine with an oscillation. some louder than others. I have also reviewed the videos in the reviews on this site and all have the same noise. Most only slightly but they ARE there. Once you know what to listen for you will here it. I only noticed it after I got the sd500 it seems to be louder than the rest.

Cameras with noise are sd100, s400, sd200 and sd500

I have an SD300 and don't have any hum during video, but it has been reported that many others have experienced the problem. Can someone post a short video that demonstrates the problem?

I started a whole thread about that in my SD500, I have my second one now that also has the whine, whereas the SD300 and SD400 I had were whine free. This is the first I am hearing about the whine in the SD400. It is well discussed in the SD500, as seen in my other thread. Canon said it shouldnt be there on the phone today.
