How Big Can I Print??

figure 3000 pixels across your picture divided by 300=10" wide you are good to print.

there shouldn't be any dramas with those prints at that smaller size. i think its as kiwi mentioned and just the server downsampling the shots.

I had a look at the full size images and although the second is a bit soft both will print up Ok at those sizes.
I do think that you should do some editing though before you let the printer loose on your images and think about what happens when the print size is 8" x8".
For instance the first image I would do something like this...


Minor tweaks to levels (in particular around the eyes).
Darkening the background.
Square Framing.

Image is good for a 10" x10" print.

I wish i knew how to work Aperture good enough to do that....

Not being a fan of the MAC, I can't help you with Aperture.
You have to make a start somewhere though and you need to get a grip on post processing to progress.
