I know about image stacking but I never tried it. I have some reading to do then I will give it a try.

how do you take a shitload of images of something thats alive ? ie: a bug ? i mean how do you make sure it doesnt move at all for 20 images ?

no, they arent always. the good macro shooters stack them with insects and spiders that are definitely alive

You know... you could always anesthetize them with some kind of passing and limited area gas cloud. I would imagine that would stop the little buggers in their tracks, so they would be STILL enough for a "layered" focus procedure.

At 10 fps you just move the camera fast to cover the range you need
