    Isn't it sad

It saddens me to see the demise of this forum and the depths loneliness that the odd reader must feel.
Yesterday Nikon released two new cameras that represent a completely new Nikon system that will no doubt grow and develop over the coming years. The cameras may not be what everybody wanted but they are full of interesting technological breakthroughs that will no doubt flow into mainstream DSLR's if not in the upcoming models but certainly by the generation after that. These cameras will have an effect of some sort on every future Nikon DSLR.
Two years ago this forum would have been awash with debate, speculation, rumour and news. Some would have been serious and so just for fun but up to this moment there doesn't appear to be a single post about the new Nikons in any section of the forum.
I come back here at least daily to see what is posted but invariably it's nothing new and I think the time has come where it may be best to wish the forum adieu and ask the last person here to please turn the lights out as they leave.

Yeah, unfortunately there aren't too many of the regulars left from a few years ago. I still check the forum out of habit, but there's never much to read.

Has been very quiet for a long time. I cant say i have put enuf effort in and i suspect many of us are equally guilty. I have to say that the d5100's movie mode has me totally hooked so photos are only around 50% of my "shoooting" now. With the boys a bit older and the sun peeking thru i will get out more finally i reckon.

As for the 1 system. Its a bit like sony's new stuff but without the wow factor. The more i see and read, the less impressed i am. I kinda get the smaller sensor thing...smaller size glass etc, but i reckon its just too damn small to be effective indoors. The j1 looks midrately interesting but the v1 is a horrendous looking beast and no flip screen = no sale for me. Hopefully canon launch something impressive to show nikon how it should be done. Right now though, the oly's and the panasonic seem head and shoulders above anything. Why would anyone buy this over an epl3 ? Not sure.

You said what's on my mind K1W1.
I also check in daily out of habit but I have never been an active contributor to the forum myself. I just hope the forum don't extinct with time.

Yeah, the activity level is certainly dropping. That said I have noticed the same seems to be true even on dpreview forums. A few brands are still very active, but 1-2 years ago if you went a day between visits you had to scroll through 3-4 pages of posts. Recently it seems to be a single page for most of the forums. Although as an Olympus user I do not visit the big two forums there much.

As for the new baby Nikons I think that the small sensor is going to make them a tough sell. The cameras themselves do not look any smaller than 4/3rds or NEX so where is the benefit? Not to mention that the first lens releases do not include any thing with a big aperture. I mean f3.5-5.6 zooms give me a break.

I think I joined these forums just after activity here was at its peak, though at the start, I was here more for reviews as I was looking for my first real point-and-shoot at the end of 2005.

The rather large number of colour variations of the J1 suggests to me that they are looking for results with mass-market consumer that have disposable income instead the dSLR consumer market. If the J1 and V1 are to succeed, they need to clearly outperform cameras like the Nikon P7100 or Canon S100 without requiring much knowledge on how to use a camera.

I have been checking the forum every now and then as well and it just seems there is a lot of other stuff going on at home keeping me busy. I will try to post more.

I still love my a900 for work and a55 for macro, but the nikon d7000 has been fun. just the ability to use full manual glass is great..really kicks butt shooting concerts.

Well, given the level of vitriol sometimes seen in discussions - I'm not that surprised. But maybe this site in general just isn't getting the traffic. In my case, I'm just too damn busy. :-O

Is it time for maybe the Canon and Nikon posters to come together under one umbrella to atleast have improved activity in at least one section?? I would like to see that cause I still prefer this forum over a lot of other ones cause a few kind or constructive criticism I might get here goes a long way compared to the crap we get on other forums.
