That is a bit surprising unless Sony didn't want to steal any thunder from the A77 launch.
OTOH it may be that the firmware is just not ready. Journalists have been shown the camera (old firmware) but no samples handed out for preview as yet.
Still the specs look good apart from no SSS.

i think you are right but at the same time, the nex are a category in their own right so to me, it is a little confusing. i can understand why nikon announce coolpix with their dslr, its cos they hope people ignore how crap the coolpix are amongst the dslr hype. but sony are onto something with this nex stuff. even the fanboy that did the a77 review above claims the nex 7 is the most compelling sony camera ever released...or something like that.

the first incarnation of the nex fell a little short for me, the nex5n looks like it may tick a few more boxes.

as for the dslt hype. the new releases look nice. lots of features, lots of tech. have seen it all before though, how they perform will be what makes or breaks them. so while its entertaining to get caught up in the hype, lets see what happens when reality hits and the beer goggles fade; you may just end up finding out you're sleeping with the same old pig with new lipstick. oh and more buttons....lets not forget those buttons. lol

I don't know whether it's the Sensor, the touch screen or the 1080p video that does it for you but the NEX-5n does look like a worthwhile enhancement.

New camera hype, yes we need to be wary of getting carried away but I do think the A77 sounds promising.
    What I do like...

    It's not toooo small.

Buttons, I'm happy with what I see considering that 3 of them are fully customisable. I don't like that the SSS button has gone into the Menu but if it can be selected in the three memory slots, I could live with it.

19 point AF, 13 cross. This sounds like good step forward, maybe not as good as Nikon but Ok for now. And of course we have the benefit of full-time phase-detection AF.

Electronic First Curtain. I really like this option, the A77 totally banishes mirror slap and now shutter vibration as well. Vibration from the mechanical second curtain can be discounted. Also makes for a quieter camera. IMO these features are likely to more than make up for the loss of image quality due to the semi-transparent mirror.

    AF Micro Adjust.

    Same batteries as A700/850/900.

It's too early to draw conclusions about the EVF (but sounds good so far) and Sensor IQ (jpegs look Sony awful) and I abhor the dropping of the CF slot but that's progress, I guess.

Edit. Forgot to mention the EVF Magnification for MF.
