The AF in the lens refers to the ability of the camera's autofocus ability to be transmitted to the lens to focus it. The older film era lenses pre-dated this technology. The later Minolta lenses, which will look like one Don showed the picture of, will have the AF on them.
These later Minolta lenses as a group are very good lenses, relative to similar grade and size lenses. The Minolta compatability was a big reason why I went with Sony over the competition.
