    Lightbulb New locale...

You might try stepping up... to Chicago. We have new "swimming holes" opening up all the time. The heat is not too bad... occasional winds to go beyond friggin' belief. It'll blow you away!

    Just sayin'...

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Okay, I took the camera and a couple of lenses out to our local USL Soccer team game (Charleston Battery) http://www.charlestonbattery.com/welcome.asp. They held an exhibition game against the Pourtsmouth FC (England's Blue Army). http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/
Got some "adequate" shots, I hope to post a couple within the next couple of days.
I am travelling the next couple of weeks and will be taking my kit along. Hopefully I can find something to photograph.
Schedule: Mon 1 Aug to Fri 5 Aug in Virginia Beach, VA; Fri 5 Aug to Sun 7 Aug in Hendersonville, NC; then Mon 8 Aug to Fri 12 Aug in Beautiful Port Orchard Washington (Puget Sound). Should be ample opportunities to wear out a couple of memory cards

    Joe,

Hendersonville is a great area to explore western NC waterfalls. Check out Kevin Adams' site: http://www.kadamsphoto.com/waterfall.htm and http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/ Also, the book, "WATERFALL WALKS and DRIVES in the GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS and the WESTERN CAROLINAS" By Mark Morrison should be available in your local travel section in Barnes and Noble (or on sale in Borders).

And I almost always find time to hit Mt Rainier if I am in Seattle. Heck, Port Orchard is just as close. Early to mid August is prime wild flower season in the high meadows. Spray Park might be peaking. Of course a small budget problem might make travel in the park a bit difficult... There was an article on Rainier wildflowers in the current Outdoor Photographer issue.

What a coincidence (Sic) I have attempted waterfalls in the National Forest outside Hendersonville before. I need to purchase the proper filters before I try that again. Also, Port Orchard is right where I am going to be, and thanks for the ideas. I will try to find out about "Spray Park" not sure where it is, but I have friends who live there who I will ask help from. Thanks again.
