    Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Vs Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L Vs Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L

    Guys
I am planning to buy one general purpose camera and my budget is $1500.
    I can get either Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM or Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L or Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L USM.
So please suggest me a good one. I am thinking about Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L USM as it looks multi purpose. Looking for your advice.
    Thanks in advance.

For a crop body my choice is the 17-55 2.8. FF recommendation goes to the 24-105.

The T1 i is the crop body. BBPhoto selected the 17-55 2.8 for it. I would recommend that lens as well.

Yup, the 17-55 2.8 is hard to beat on a crop body.

One thing to consider is the weight; I tried the 24-70 and the 24-105 on my 500d. The 24-70 weigh 950g which is heavy and I would not want to cary that around all day; the 24-105 is lighter at 650g and I could probably carry it all day.
I went for a 15-85 in the end and I notice the difference in the 15 and 24 when I tried a 24-105 and the 15-85 side by side; I had to walk back 5 or 6 steps to get the same area included in my shot.

I decided against the 17-55 as I thought the range coverage of the 15-85 would be more useful than the F2.8.

I had this same dilemna back when I picked up the 40D. I originally purchased the 24-70 and it is quite heavy- but the biggest drawback is that on a crop camera, the 24mm isn't wide enough- and the 70mm is too long or not long enough. It's kind of an awkward range on a crop camera.

The longer 24-105 I ruled out pretty early- although it would be better for a general walk around lens, there are many situations where F4 just may not be fast enough.

My choice in the end was the 17-55 F2.8 IS. Fantastic lens. And i won't be replacing it until there's a 17-85 F2.8L IS *dreams more*

In the end you'll need to figure out what you like to shoot- or want to shoot and where- this will help determine which way you go.

It is a beauty. Had it not been for this lens I would have gone FF!!
