I got it now. I never zeroed out my meter like I do with my non flash shots. I will try to take some shots today and test it out.

    Thanks again

I found this site http://www.mhohner.de/sony-minolta/flashcomp.php and after some more reading I found out what I think I am doing wrong besides all the things Rooz and Peter have been telling me. I have my camera set to ADI flash which would not be a problem if I zeroed out my meter like Rooz said and POINTED THE FLASH FORWARD!!! I was using it as a bounce with my bounce card. I need to use TTL when using the flash off camera and when bouncing the flash.

    Thanks again

Oh Crikey, Frank! I never thought for one moment that you didn't know not to use ADI with bounce flash. No wonder your exposures are all to hell and gone.

I've always thought that ADI flash was a waste of time anyway, too many restrictions; on camera, straight ahead, no bounce, no diffusers .... aaargh!

If there is something in the foreground or bright objects in the scene, remember you have flash compensation as an easy option to bump up the flash output.

Just so there can be no misunderstanding, I am talking about "Flash Compensation" not "Exposure Compensation"
It is available from the Quick Navi screen but only when the Flash is active.
