can the camera cause back focus?? I thought it was a lens problem.

B/F issues are rarely an individual lens problem, although a lens can contribute to an additive set of negative tolerances.

How can I test to see if it is the camera or the lens. I have been using this lens for 3 years and never had a problem.

It's still not a big problem with that particular lens, certainly at the long, f/5.6 end with increased DOF. B/F issues become critical with the narrow DOF associated with fast lens. You need to test with your 50mm f/1.7 and you could start with the "battery" test.

I had a quick look at your Flickr gallery and the first image on the first page, Grayden 2......



....exhibits some front focus. Easy to see that the Front of the tray, his fingers and the pattern on the right sleeve (his left) are sharp whereas
the ears and the pattern on the left sleeve (his right) where it joins the black is already going OOF.
As you were using f/5, the issue is disguised by three times the DOF compared to the case had you been using f/1.7 and fortuitously, the plane of focus was also in your favour.

Perhaps you've have the same issue with the A100.

take a shot of your lawn looking down at 45 degrees..see if the spot center is the best focus..@ lower f
