Hi Allan, welcome, always nice to see new posters.
Not many experts here, just enthusiasts.
A230 not bad at all, nice sharp CCD Sensor, a bit ropey above ISO400.

Apologies in advance if I'm teaching Grandmother to suck eggs but...

At longer exposures, spurious noise is generated in the circuitry, mainly due to the Sensor heating up and it gets worse at higher temps.
Long exposure noise reduction simply takes a black frame for the same exposure time as the actual shot, then the black frame noise is subtracted from the image.
Bad news is that a 1 minute exposure takes 2 minutes.
I wouldn't worry at exposures of less than 30secs but it's probably worth it for exposures longer than that.
This is especially true if you are not shooting RAW and relying on in camera processing.

I thought the Dubai image looked a bit soft. I doubt that would be down to LENR though.

I liked the Dubai shot and the second bridge shot. Nice panorama too was that with the Sony sweep panorama feature?
Around every picture there's a corner & round every corner there's a picture
    - the fun's in finding them

Thanks Phill , my a230 does not have panorama feature luckily i got to closed to the bridge and i was underneath. I adjusted my position to get a nice shot. i took it with my standard 18-55M lens.
