Also, spare a thought for our friends in Queensland, Australia.
Just recovering from the worst flooding in a long time they are now contending with fierce winds and driving rains brought by the most powerful storm ever to hit Queensland. With winds reaching up to 290km/h (181mph), Cyclone Yasi is ripping roofs off buildings and has cut power to at least 100,000 people.

Ferocious ... a fight will ensue
Looks like in 2011, we are all going to be running for cover, considering the way things are starting out. A lot of new building seems to be an obvious alternative. Probably more like a bomb-shelter than the traditional home.
That is, if you do not want to have to rebuild it again. I suppose we could always "disguise" the shelter hidden inside with a low-cost rip away cover. Kind of like environmental reactive armor. Sheesh. I suppose you could call them "bunkers", but of a far more refined type for actual occupation by a family and such.
Imagine, at war with planet Earth. Hand-to-wind & wave combat. In a way, it kind of reminds me of Moses vs the Red Sea. I have to admit, it has that Biblical event feel to it. (Let's use this drawing for illustration. I didn't have my camera at the time. It got lost in the desert or consumed by the pillar of fire. ) When you gotta go ... get gone.
Just goes to show you far you can go with ... the right staff.

Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.
