Displaying NEF thumbnails in Windows 7 64 bit
Has anyone worked out how to show NEF thumbnails in Windows 7 64 bit?
Google showed me a 3rd party plugin for sale that will render thumbnails but surely there must be a better way?
On my old XP machine, NEF thumbnails just displayed, not so with my new computer.

I'm surprised that there isn't something available from Microsoft.

No luck but thanks for trying Jcon. - that's the 32 bit solution.
If there is K1W1 then I can't find it.

Yep that's the link I found K1W1 for the paid solution. I was just struggling to believe I had to pay money for a 3rd party solution when I own Nikon legit software and camera.
Thanks for trying.

Presumably you pay for MS Word when Windows comes standard with a text editor.
It looks to me like it's well worth the $15, way better than waiting for Nikon to produce software that will be buggy and cause crashes. Every piece of software I have seen from them so far has been way less than impressive.
BTW have you tried Irfanview? They claim it works under Windows 64-bit and it does support .NEF files and it's free.

Irfanview works like a charm to view NEF files, even on 64-bit (but doesn't show thumbnail previews) And the fast picture viewer codec pack is well worth the money: I got it installed on my win7 64bit and it works like a charm. I can view NEF preview thumbnails like with everything else. And 15 dollars is less than I pay for a pizza so... Fantastic value.

DPR, I use Fastone Image Viewer to view thumbnails and for quik sorting and deleting. It also let's me view .psd files, it's light and fast.

Lightroom is my go to when it's basically a controled or same light quality group situation for batch processing. And PhotoShop when the lightwieght can't handle the job.
I thought about who I am... and realized I was an
unformed, unreconciled imagery, without "GOD"

I use Fast Picture Viewer, linked above.
In the past the codec pack, as well as the basic viewer, used to be free.
I think its worth it. Its very clean software.
One thing though. It gave me a price in my credit card currency (NZD). I paid. When the charge showed up, it was like 50 cents more. Stuff like that really pisses me off, even if it is only a small amount. I complained, and got very little traction (take it up with our 3rd party provider, who then didnt respond).
Thats my experience. Hope it helps.
