And when do we get to enjoy the shots from the 300 f4?
IMO that was a bargain for what it was (I assume that it was as represented). I know what other people around here have sold units with more use and owners for in the past.

Short arms and long pocket's, I wouldn't have bought either if I didn't feel as you just said. He kept his gear pristine, arrived as represented.
I pity his poor wife that now has to lug around a long F2.8 on bush walks for him (presumably the 300) but could be the 400mm.
And the weather is really dodgy at the moment (for those in less inclement climes, I say dodgy cause it's winter, 15 knot winds and only 15 degrees Celsius). When it improves I'll get out, take and post a shot.

Dodgy? That's positively tropical.
Try 80 knot winds and 1.6 degrees. I'm beginning to think that the ice warning light on my dash board will never go off.
I really should have jumped on that 300 but now just isn't quite the right time.

Considering we are "reviewing" gear not necessarily tied to the Nikon system, does it make sense that this is a Sticky in the Nikon DSLR forum? I mean, we have Pentax and Canon guys posting their gear in here?
Should this thread be moved into the General DSLR Discussion forum?

This is a thread for Nikon and Nikon related equipment. There s nothing to stop owners of other brands of gear to start their own threads in the appropriate place.

I've been wanting one of these for a while and I finally saw them advertised at a semi reasonable price.

Time to bring this thread back to life... Just ordered the nikkor 24-70 f2.8, sigma 12-24mm version II and a benro bh-1 ballhead. I had, and sold, the 24-70 before - and I was planning on getting the tamron 24-70 VC when that will be relased. But I'm shooting 3 or 4 cars + a model in a garage this coming week (if all goes as planned). So I need something versatile that can handle poor light ASAP - and there's nothing better than the nikkor 24-70 f2.8 right now.
And I also owned the first version of the 12-24, so I'm looking forward to seeing how sigma has improved it.
