Unhappy SONY may be assuming too much

I have been considering all the ramifications of the P&S+lenses called "SLT" ... and I am not convinced it is a true solution to a photographer.

    Leave it at that.

curious you would think that way cos i reckon they would have sold more SLT cameras in their first hour of release than the total sales of the a850 and a900 combined.

This is still only a rumour concerning an A77 and not a possible A7xx.
SAR are calling it an A700 successor but I have my doubts.
Sony released the A55 but also the A560 and A580.
Why would they not do an A77 and an A7xx.
It seems inconceivable that they won't, I hope I'm not wrong.

Why so? The A700 was released back end of '07 so you're asking for an upgraded A700 class camera every year. A three year cycle is reasonable for this class of camera.

Ok, so Sony are playing catchup with CaNikon even with the remnants of Minolta who were themselves well behind. It's unlikely that Sony will catch up in the next generation or three but they will close the gap, that's quite clear from the recent A55/560/580.

I doubt that but you're on the right track, I don't know what Don and Sonynut are thinking.

I've said it before but the SLT draws a line in the sand and demonstrates Sony's capacity for innovation.
These cameras set a completely new benchmark and will sell in droves.

Look what you get at a 650 pricepoint
    In body stabilisation
16.2MP sensor with good high ISO capability
    Multi point AF
6fps (highest yet on a Sony)
    10fps with limitations
    MLU (sort of)
Quality EVF (we may prefer OVF but this EVF looks like it's better than the crappy Pentamirrors on the lower end cams)
    Fully articulating LCD
Gimmicks but Muti-frame HDR, Muti-frame noise reduction up to iso25600, Muti-frame merging low light enhancement, Sweep Panorama ...

and, oh yes, what everybody's been clamouring for
    Video with real AF tracking
Some people are griping about the lack of MF modes and Video frame rates but did I mention the price?
Sony need to leave something behind for the A77/99.

I meant by the time it gets released in the rumored Q1 2011. I was waiting for this camera back at the beginning of 2009. With the entry levels getting updated yearly, you would think the next one up would be about 2 years, but I guess not.
