Again, you miss the intent ... you should not have to do it at ALL.

Everything has a "work around" ... consider Apollo 13. I mean, Houston, they had a problem! They successfully made it back ... but, they still investigated it and corrected it BEFORE launching another mission. Once you discover or, in this case, "uncover" a problem, you fix it.

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

Even the Canons have a limitation but it has to do with the files sytem it has to write to.

You're getting awfully worked up about something you don't intend to use!
Or have you now reconsidered on video for DSLRs?

You really have no concept of the issues. I said it earlier and I should have stuck with it; carry on with your rants.

    Question Where do you live?

No ... I am not a cinematographer. That has not changed. If you saw my short that I did, posted on Flickr, you would understand why.

Like I tried to explain: I read through the new Alpha manual to see what was of interest and immediately got riveted on this "29-minute" nonsense. I began thinking to myself, "Now, why in blue-blazes would there be some kind of arbitrary time limit on continuous video?" The more I investigated, the angrier and bitter I became until, finally, I had had it and posted my findings, to alert the rest of the members to this ludicrous and preposterous imposition into our equipment. Heck, even my dog looked confused about it and tore at a rope in protest.

I may have to tolerate this & that limitation from R&D ... but, when it comes to some joker's messing with the software just to comply with some non-applicable law or tariff demand in another country. My friends, THAT is where I draw the line! Oh look, someone at the map company did, too! It is right here ... on this map that I found in a dusty old dresser drawer. I pulled it out to look at and just to make sure someone didn't erase "the pond" when I wasn't looking.

See ... right where "North America" ends, you know ... right where the Atlantic Ocean begins. Yes, it's still Sovereign territory! The laws and rules in Europe have no force, like right after you cross the mid-Atlantic ridge. It is like .. well, magic! At least people thought so, until recently, I guess. Now, not so much, huh?

I mean, if some folks are offended by my observations ... well, you have company. Just put yourself in my place, I'm feeling pretty offended by all this, too!

Personally, I tend to believe the "people-who-were-there" kind of story, but at best, we can hope it is a relative homogenization of the details.
I just noticed you went back and added this to your post.

Sorry, but you are factually wrong. Porn had nothing to do with the demise of Beta, no matter how many conspiracy theories you allude to. Sony didn't want to lose control of their technology and as a result VHS won out. They thought the better features of Beta would win in the end, they were wrong.

This is not the first time you've been called out on factually wrong arguments and I suspect it won't be the last. I also am under no illusion that it will change your posting style, but since you made this addition to your post after the fact I didn't want it to go unchallenged.

I now, again, return you to your regularly scheduled rant.

    Exclamation "END the 29-minute limit"

    David,

I have first hand knowledge that the world's fate does not hinge on who is standing on what side of the Betamax-issue. It was brought into the discussion as another reference point, from another time ... looking strikingly familiar. Yes, that ship has sailed, so beating it to another death seems "time wasting."

The time is now, though, to eradicate this rather stupid limitation from EVER again showing itself in US-bound equipment. I would prefer your support in this, as a concerned party and hopefully, if there are enough voices of opposition, the problem can be straighten out, once and for all.

Perhaps a letter of protest can be circulated, through the forums, and the SONY Front Office can get it straight that you do not impose restrictions where none should exist.

I think Bluray was more expensive than HD-DVDs were.

I can't believe this thread is still going.

Don, you should create your own country and be the ruler of it or stop buying foreign products since you think your liberties as an American is being violated by a Japanese company!

Anyway good laugh after a semi-stressful day!
