SONYs Video DSLR(s)
Sure,
a little late to the party, but now all those who bolted to the Canon 7D ... can get on the return bus and adopt the just-introduced 14.2 MP SONY α560 (<- click on this) as their Optical View Finder (OVF) movie-making career move. The 16MP version, the α580 will be released soon.
But what really has the world abuzz is the Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) SLT-α33V and SLT-α55V Translucent Mirror Technology® DSLRs ... which locks the sensor safely and dust-free behind a NON-MOVING optically semipermeable (pellicle) mirror and allow it to shoot at 10-frames-per-second. A staggering improvement in sports shooting for a very, very reasonable price. Almost everyone can nail "little Johnny" as he crosses the finish line ... and blow by the competition! With an ISO 25600 ... this is a speed enhancement like never before. And, of course, internally stabilized 1080/60i HD video thrown in.
Along with all the Alpha lenses, you can also couple it with the lower-cost 85mm f/2.8 DT ($249) and the 35mm f/1.8 DT ($199) ... you can get back on the train and significantly lower the price per image that you always wanted.
No other manufacturer is offering such variety in your DSLR photographic solution. Nearly as many cameras as there are Minolta/SONY lenses to mount on them.
Welcome back, guys. No harm, no foul.
BTW: You may want to consider SIZE ... if it is important:

And I thought holding a Canon XT was a struggle. I feel a need for a Vertical Grip, don't you?

Look, I did not create the optical laws of the Universe ... I simply learned to deal with them.
Remember: It is usually the GLASS, not the camera (except for moving to Full Frame), that gives you the most improvement in your photography.

I was hoping for a true through view...not a video screen

What is the difference between the A580 and the A55???

One's a DSLR and the others an SLT (single lens transluscent).

OVF vs EVF

To kind of be a little more informative, the α560/α580 DSLRs are very much like the α550 with video and a few other things. They also STILL use the Optical Viewfinder (OVF), where your eye actually sees through the lens.
The SLT-α33 and α55 are a new DSLR design ... which have non-movable translucent mirrors inside them and an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF), instead of the usual optical viewfinder. So what you actually see in the viewfinder is an electronic representation (not an actual through-the-lens optical view) of what the camera's sensor is seeing, much like the P&S camera designs. The older EVF designs were pretty grainy and where troublesome to look at ... SONY says this design is much improved and not nearly as course as prior versions.
So, I hope that helps a bit.

Don thanks for a the detailed explanation. They look real small. Do they use the same lenses as the A series bodys?

Yes ... unlike the recently introduced NEX design (which requires an "E-mount" to "A-Mount" adapter), the SLT bodies (α33 & α55) use the standard Minolta/SONY A-mount ... and all the lenses should work on it.
The first posting did stress this information. I was hoping it was clear enough and I apologize for any confusion.
I was hoping Ryan and Elisha were making arrangements to dump that Canon stuff, save themselves some serious money, and get back on board with SONY. I thought I saw them running around, wildly, looking for the respective cartons to return them.

I did see that it said A mount lenses but with all the new bodies I forgot what type of lens I needed. LOL
Thanks Again
