I picked up my grandson so I could take some pictures. I cannot seem to get the lightning right. Here are a few shots from today. He needed a break or I would have taken more.

The 2nd shot in the first post shows that the fill flash was not powerful enough to even out the umbrella light causing the shadow from his nose under his eye.

If you used a reflector, it would have worked better than a bare flash trying to fill!
Or if he was facing the umbrella a little, that shadow could have been prevented.

You can get a 32" or a 22" cheaper and even a stand for it.

I think the fill flash was too powerful. You can see the shadow from his shirt. The umbrella was on his left side (our right). I am going to try to put the fill flash on the umbrella and the Sony on half power.

You can probably try bouncing the fill flash off a white surface to his face as well.

Do you have any other hotshoe flash other than you little slave one?
You may be able to pick up something old but cheap at a flea market or a pawn shop if you just want to mess around.
Or you can get the Vivitars, Lumos' or the YNs. Just anything that lets you control power output!
