What's to photograph around Sydney in Late May?

My wife decided she wants to visit her host family south of Sydney, Australia in a week, for about 10 days. I'm a bit bummed, as I know winter is approaching and I really wanted to spend some time shooting critters, maybe even getting into the water. I know it's not going to be anywhere near as cold as Minnesota in the US, but would guess nature slows down a bit.

We've done the Blue Mtns a few years back. Any recommendations for photogenic locations this time of year in that neck of the woods?

    Thanks,

    -Curt

Time of year doesn't affect anything much in most parts of Aus, particularly around Sydney. Winter daytime max typically 20C, summer typically 33C, not much diff. Native trees keep their leaves etc.

Thanks - for the tip. I remember visiting Melbourne in July for a conference - it was much colder than that, but that's more south.

I assumed the big temp difference would mean less reptiles and bugs out and about. How about skin diving? Water must be a lot less inviting.

I used to dice all year in Melbourne. The water temp goes down to a balmy 8C. At this time of year the water temp around Sydney would still be in mid teens.

Though very few bikini clad girls will be swiming at the beach, unless you count pomie tourists at Bondi.

Yes reptiles and bugs will be in winter mode, but some are still present

We're still getting snake sightings at work and here the temp is dropping to 10C at night (ie nearly winter)

Umijin, lots of little lizards, bugs and ants still in the brush on bushwalks. You must have a very patient wife if she lets you go 1/2 way round the world and photograph tiny and time consuming subjects.

We live in Japan - it's about 8 hours flight not so far away. :-)

My wife is dragging me there (when I'd rather be diving someplace warmer) mostly to drive her about with our kids to see her old friends. She went to school in Wollongong Uni some years ago, so we'll be in the Albion Park area most of the time.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to spend lots of time exploring Oz - enjoyed my visits there. But I'd enjoy it more if I have something I enjoy shooting. Scenery will be great, and I'll certainly take advantage of that. But as a zoologist, I'm more inclined to photograph critters (large or small). Unfortunately, our budget won't allow me to go to the north to Townsville or even Brisbane during this trip. And I'd really like to get into the water, but oh well.

Thanks for the information and encouragement.
