well, to cut a long story short, they went for a bit of a swim and i picked them up from nikon service today. the good news is that both still work. i actually am finding that quite difficult to believe to be honest. the bad news is that my camera has cancer. corrosion has started inside the camera and its only a matter of time before its lights out.

how long ? the nikon tech guy just shrugged and said "it shouldnt be working now, so it could go anytime." maybe the next shot, maybe in a month, maybe a year. who knows. the lens is a bit stiff but everything still works.

the official nikon service diagnosis. "camera irreparable. no repair attempted due to excessive water and corrosion damage."

luckily for me i have insurance so its all covered apart from a $100 excess which is great. the next issue i have to solve is what do i do now ?

First thing to do is make the claim. Don't forget to include the media that was in the camera when it went diving and the camera strap. They should wipe out the $100 excess fairly easily.

Next set about getting your three quotes.

    Next wait for the cheque.

It's a shame you couldn't get the timing right for the D800 or whatever but new models are always top dollar anyway.

claim made. all good so far. strap is fine and memory card is fine. should i claim them aswell do you think ?

i just checked my notes agin from when i used the MkII, cant go there no matter how much i love canon primes, so its basically down to 3 options.
wait for a d800 and pray my camera doesnt die
    get another d700
    get a d3s

You missed the point about the media card and the strap both of which are obviously damaged from what I can see. They will both add up to more than the excess.

If the insurance co will play ball the D800 is the way I would go but they may want to settle after all if the camera keeps working there really isn't a claim when you think about it.

Now I suppose you will decide to go the D3S route and then tell me the MB-D10 wasn't attached when thinks went swimming.
