Cheap remote
OK, Nikon's IR based remote for D40 and other D series cameras is cheap enough at less than $20, I just saved the $20.
Using the expensive Harmony One for home theater, I was able to program in Nikon as one of the devices. It doesn't have "camera" as a selection, so chose "home appliance" "Nikon" brand from dropdown menu then typed in the model. On the remote, the device shows as PVR which I could go in and rename.
After setting the camera shutter for remote operation, had to play around as the obvious button "Enter" did not work. Randomly hitting buttons, finally fired as I hit the volume "+" button.
May work with other programable remotes. Just my tip for the day.
