Mecablitz 48AF
I got a new Metz 48 AF for The sony A300 and I got a problem using the TTL mode. All my shots are over exposed. I used all my lenses and all with the same results. Does anyone know how this works? Is there something that I am doing wrong?

Did you check to see if there are any firmware updates for the 48 AF-1?

There are no firmware updates but I got it right now. I had other lights burning in the room and that gave the wrong readings to the flash. I dimmed them a lot and now its perfect.

That's still odd. It should automatically compensate for ambient lighting when in auto mode.
The only time it should disregard it is if you set it to manual power.
Maybe it was just a temporary glitch!

as elisha pointed out, that is irrelevant. the whole idea of TTL is that it automatically adjusts according to whatever other light is in the room.

Don, Don, Don, you preach 3rd party more than anyone, Tamron TAMron TAMRON!!!! You also were seriously considering a Metz flash not too long ago. http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46106

Don't beat the messenger, pal!
Jim, you need to realize that the mecablitz 76 ... has just a little more to it than just being third party. The base alone is specifically designed with the manufacturer in mind. In fact, the flash will not TTL w/o the specific unit.

Yeah, I would love to see EVERYONE using this baby! Even me!
But, when you go off the SONY trail ... you can expect some hiccups. A wiser purchase over the Metz 48 would suggest the SONY HVL-F58AM ... just for that reason. You have to know that these manufacturers love nothing more than making proprietary items and accessories for their cameras.
That goes for lens mounts, cable/cord plug-in points and, yeah, hot shoes.
The "third-party" follies ... a challenge for one and all.
