Let the guessing game begin (or is that continue?)
From Thom Hogans essay this week.
"New Nikon goodies are coming. Some time in the first two weeks of February we'll have lots to talk about. Lots."
While you are there scroll down a bit and look at what he has to say about the 60mm Micro, D3000, and 70-200 VRII.
Edit:
Wonder if I can get 900 replies to this post?

whatever they release, (or dont release), we will have lots to talk about. given nikons track record with glass updates, i suspect it will be the latter.

Sightings of D900 future listings are on Rumors.
I love the fact he says LOTS to talk about.

If there's a new version of the d700 with higher resolution, my wallet is going to take a hit.
-
You may want to prepare for the hit then.

I'm ready & waiting I'd love a d800 with the d3s sensor bumped up to around 20 megapixels to match the iso performance of the D700, but at better rez. The bigger the pictures, the easier my post processing work becomes as I work at pixel level a lot.

If what he is saying is true about the new ISO performance, I'd love to see a D700s but I must confess, I'm not sure if it would mandate an upgrade on that alone.

Whats so wrong with the ISO performance of the D700 that so many are willing to shell out a crap load of more money on the updated version?

Has anyone said they want to upgrade because of the poor iso performance on the d700

I am not sure if we could really say any of their dSLRs are in any need of a dire update
Their point-and-shoot and smaller cameras on the other hand, need a lot more work and can use some hand-me-downs from their lower end dSLRs
And hopefully Nikon won't make any weird decisions such as their P6000 not recording their RAW data in NEF format
I can't really say what kind of lenses they will announce, but I think they are mostly fine with the consumer level zooms and primes
