Sorry Don. I knew it might be a while before somebody replied so I tried to get it started. LOL You don't have to answer as I have been told quite a few times ( a few too many) what I need to do. Hope you get some bites from a newbie.

Well, we are not going to be here forever. I suggest that if you new folks have questions, start asking and quit stalling.

I'll back you up here Don....I think your intentions are noble and the thread could develop into something useful if used constructively.
I know there are some users that still use the Auto button on their DSLR.

Say it isn't so
Even when I had my FZ7, I used Aperture Priority mode and only set it to Auto when I handed it to somebody.
Not that AP made much of a difference in such a small sensor, but I felt that I had some control.

Yesterday, one of my students looked at my camera and said, "Why is it on "Av"? Don't you know "P" is a lot better?"

Don....I would even suggest trying again, but don't limit it to Sony forum.

Don't get me wrong with the intent of this posting ... it is for the benefit of new SONY DSLR users, not other manufacturers. If you "other" guys want to cop the idea and run with it, have at it, because it is a monster job explaining the intricacies of photography to folks who just provide feedback with a blank stare and a puzzled look when they try to operate their cameras.
Understanding ... and most of all, patience, are at the core of training.
But the understanding also has to come from the student. No one is off the hook when it comes to that. Patience ... that comes with age and the benefit of getting your fingers burned a few times.
Thank you for the suggestion, Gaza, but I am one dude, with one line of cameras in mind. A man has to know his limitations and I, literally, just cannot field it all.
Now, if there are any serious questions about how to get control out of your SONY DSLR ... post them. Let's all do something powerful with the forum.
