Get some glass. Go for the Tamron 17-50. It is pretty much the only way to get remotely wide without buying a UWA. I had to do some group shots today and I was so glad I had it. Fast/sharp lenses at longer lengths are pretty easy to come by, but f/2.8 at 17 is rare without spending a ton.

The A100 was a nice body, and the A700 would be a good upgrade for you, but at this point your lenses wouldn't do the A700 much justice.

The 5D or 50D probably felt so nice focusing because it was with a USM lens. The non-USM Canon lenses aren't even as nice as the Sony screw drive. My first AF gen Maxxum 7000 with a 35-70 f/4 lens focuses as well as the Canon 50 on my 40D with fancy AF. But the couple of USM lenses I have are amazing.

Make the Quantaray and the kit zoom go away, get the Tamron 17-50 to go along with the Minolta glass and the Tamron 70-300, that should be a pretty decent kit with reasonable low light capability in the normal range.

I loved this lens on my a700. I loved it so much that I bought one for my 50D. You won't be disappointed!

The Quantaray has been on the shelf since the first week I got the camera. It stripped the AF gear on the lens. I removed the AF drive to make it a MF lens but replaced it with my Tamron 70-300. I I was to go FF down the road the 17-50 would be a waste. That is why I need to know my next move first. I will be getting glass first.

AF speed is pretty dependent on the lens, so one with SSM will be very fast.

I kinda doubt it, but it would answer what a lot of people have been asking for.

Yeah, I don't know why they think that..... Their flagship APS-C needs to be updated with a similar specs while maintaining a high frame rate. A full frame with 3fps just isn't going to cut it at that price range.
