There may be others who are simply biding their time, not giving away their intellectual advantage. Oct 1st, 2009 is the deadline. A lot of new DSLRs have yet to cast their lot ... and also join the forum 
Not many boards offering something like this, anyway. You usually have to buy this or that ... or, perhaps, invest BIG ol' bucks in non-stabilized camera bodies (wink wink nudge nudge). The contest, you simply have to show your moxie and produce a rather decent argument for an equipment upgrade. In other words, "do a sales job on the lens, based on two others for contrast." Cripes, I am also supplying background information. Life's good!

I didn't advocate you buying anything - I responded to something incredibly foolish that you wrote saying that more glass is always better, even if it's garbage glass.
Oh, and of COURSE something will compare well favourably to a $1500 Zeiss lens when you slap a $150 teleconverter on it.
Your evaluation seems more than a bit contrite, 'jekostas', so I am simply ignore any further derogatory opinion on your behalf concerning my personal choices of the crystalline sand I use in my hobby.

how many photos are taken of lens charts ? in don's case, alot. but in photographic terms ? zero. i dont know what the point is of you buying high quaility glass when you actually dont use it for its intended purpose.
and b4 you go on your typical nonsensical rant, i suggest you reread what i suggested. i didnt tell you to sell the tokina and buy the sony.

I need a FF wide angle with a decent MFD.

I did a search on ebay for the Km 17-35 there were none. Where can you get one? What do they cost? I used that lens for my sons wedding as some of you might know and it did a great job.

The only 17-35mm I'e been seeing are the G and they cost too much.
The regular 17-35mm goes for anywhere between $200 - $350.

I'm not planning on selling it. I have barely used it, yet. Geez louise. 
With the α700, I have the 17-50mm f/2.8 Di-II lens. You cannot use it as anything but a crop lens on the α850, hence the 17-35mm f/2.8-4 "D".
