For a $1000 you could get an A700.

    Lightbulb Seems simple enough ...

The A550 has LiveView in two flavors and delivers everything you get from your current camera with more resolution and a whole heck of a lot more speed. It is roughly a grand ... and would be exactly what you want, devoid of movie making.

Get one, Brian and submit your reaction. It'll be a first.

No ... this video feature may be in the new A7xx (number to be determined), but that is still not confirmed. The release of the camera could be Q1 of 2010. Nothing is confirmed and this is currently just conjecture. We all could be surprised, shortly, with the recent announcement by Canon and prompting SONY to respond, but no one is betting on it. SONY seems to do as it pleases, in that regard.

If you need a serious upgrade from the 300 series, the 500 series seems up to the task.

Brian ... you have got to be kidding. You have your answer ... the A550 is a better investment for trade-in purposes. Always try to look ahead when you buy this stuff ... Where am I now? & Where am I going to be, in two years? It just makes for a better experience, overall.
