Well, it DOES work with the VG-C90AM Vertical Grip ... so that question is answered for certain. The view is hell of a lot wider ... and metering into source light will be a challenge.

The ka-thunk of the mirror movement is a bit new to hear. Yep, 3 FPS ... in rrrapid fire drive.

And guys ... it is nighttime ... darn near 10 PM

Well, I was just warming up ...

BTW: the hot shoe cap keeper (on the strap) is not included! Well, that accounts for $20 in SONY savings.

Lightbulb Preparing for a night shot ...

Oh, I thought about it ... just to torture 'Rooz' ... button pushing.

Anyway, I set up the menu ... getting things together from the defaults. Got the strap hitched up and "stapled." The RC2 foot is on the VG-C90AM ... so ... I want to go out and get Jupiter ... it just to the left of the Moon, tonight. Nice and bright ... with the TAMRON SP AF 200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD ... and see if I can get a good shot. Then, I'll swap the new Kenko TelePlus 3x T/C with the AF 200mm f/2.8 APO G HS on it ... and try again.

They look small, but little things mean a lot. LOL

    Cool Jupiter ...

Well, I am quite impressed with the 24.6 MP sensor. It is giving me what I simply could not get out of the A700's 12.2 MP, no matter how I tried ... pure resolution.

I can actually see more than a pixelated dot ... at 500mm and 600mm. Hey, I know I'm pushing it ... but, if this camera can resolve astrophotographs without a telescope ... man oh man. Please remember, this is through the atmospherics surrounding smoggy old Chicago, not the pristine Arizona desert. I blocked a lot of the nearby Moon's glare by positioning a willow tree between it and my lens. Active dodging?

Obviously, you have to have seen what I have been getting from the A700, but here is the resized original image for perspective and the 100% crops from the two lenses on the A850:

    TAMRON original @ 500mm
    Attachment 48645
    A850 w/ T 200-500mm f/5-6.3
    @ 500mm - f/6.3 - 1/250 sec - ISO-200 - Spot Focus - Manual

TAMRON SP AF 200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD - 100% Crop
    Attachment 48643

    Kenko 3x T/C + Minolta 200mm f/2.8 APO G HS - 100% Crop
    Attachment 48644
    @ 600mm - f/8 - 1/250 sec - ISO-200 - Spot Focus - Manual

Also, this was only four shots per each lens ... same settings ... just to be sure I eliminated any possible shake (1/250 sec). Personally, I am now wondering why did I ever shoot anything else? This is the way to go ... you can even see the stripes across Jupiter's face ... awesome.
