the G11 goes down to 10mp from 14.7 in the G10. Canon had the balls to do what the rest of the market, since fuji's f30, has been too gutless to do...actually reduce MP's on a top end compact.

how it performs is yet to be seen but the principal of what canon just did should make everyone breathe a sigh of relief. its what most of us have been begging for...ENOUGH WITH THE MP'S ALREADY !!!!

with a nice big fully articulating LCD, RAW, hotshoe and VF no less. this thing looks bad ass man.

i hope those inept, useless morons designing nikon's coolpix are paying attention. somehow i doubt it though...the yhave their heads firmly stuck up their....well...you join the dots.

I was surprised too, it will be interesting to see if it delivers. They're doing the same thing with the new S90 too.

canon arent sony. if they say it works, (in their top end model no less), i'm inclined to believe them.

.... yeah.... I hope it's not a one off thing and hopefully this is the trend toward MegaPixel sanity.
However, many PnN cameras now hover around 10-12MP mark for a while and the only exception being the mad Kodak EasyShare Z1485 IS which boasts 14MP.
Personally, I think MP has only one way to go - which is down or remains around 10MP. These days people have the unnecessary habit of viewing image at 100% on their monitor, so how long can manufacturers keep fooling consumers to think bigger is better?

I wonder if that's because they simply can't increase the chip size to accomodate more MP. Either way, it's a good move.
