    According to:
    http://www.photoclubalpha.com/2009/0...s-in-900-body/

"Sonys new Alpha 850 will be identical to the Alpha 900 in size, handling and external design including the omission of onboard flash. The camera, expected to be launched before September, uses the same 24.6 megapixel CMOS sensor as the Alpha 900 but has it is rumoured only a single BIONZ processor, and a very slightly modified viewfinder. It is shipped without the Remote Commander (this becomes an optional extra) indicating that minimum retail price is Sonys aim.

... The Alpha 900 uses twin BIONZ processors to achieve 5fps. It also uses, as far as is known, Apicals proprietary IRIDIX processor to handle the DRO, DRO+ Auto and Manual image optimisation. ... The Alpha 850, however, achieves 3fps using a single BIONZ or so it is rumoured* and it does have DRO, and DRO+. ...

The second difference between A900 and A850 is that the optical prism shows 98% of the frame, not 100%, but does so at exactly the same 0.74X magnification and with the same 20mm eyepoint. ...."

specs look great but i do like my 5fps and use it all the time just for the fun of it.
i'd buy one if it is about $1,500 or so. but i doubt that's gonna happen.

At first I pretty much thought this was all a hoax but now I'm pretty much convinced it isn't.
Although it doesn't seem that $1500 is likely Elisha, unless the A900 is still retailing at $2400 in the US.
But at 1150 ($1950) it's a very attractive proposition; even more so if less money.
If this scenario pans out it could be a Sony Masterstroke. May not be the camera I was hoping for but at that pricepoint it does make the change to FF more doable and offers a choice other than a secondhand 900.
Ok it doesn't have 5fps (not bothered) or Video (not bothered) or liveview (not bothered). Maybe it will offer an improved ISO performance, who knows.

Thanks..... I post credible stuff and rumors, but I mark them as such (and cite my souces).

Without a second bioniz processor david killpatrick (sp?) thinks they might be able to deal with noise better.

We live in hope although it's not a big issue for me. I just want the FF.
